On August 26, 2017 my son was admitted to Riveredge Hospital after an episode at home that was very chaotic. He had arrived home from school that afternoon to find a surprise, he was going to have his favorite cheeseburgers for dinner and he was very happy. I had just picked them up a short time before he got home and told him to take them inside because it was too early to have dinner. Once inside he found his mother sitting at the kitchen table and told her that he wanted lottery tickets and when she said NO he went ballistic. He began hitting her, kicking her and then picked up a kitchen chair and hurled it at her. He was removed from the house at this time.

I was 14 here a few of years ago. Started going when I was 13 and didn't end til I was 15. Reggie is not a good man and I wish I could get in contact with the owner about him. Yeah I was a kid and naive, but as a 21 year old grown woman now, he is a very bad man. I may even consider contacting an authority figure because he should not be there and they need to monitor the camera's closely.

This place is horrible; they make their own rules, won't allow my kiddo to call me and when I call they don't answer the phone or they keep me on hold until it hangs up. They've misplaced my kiddo's clothes and homework and one had the nerve to have an attitude when I asked about it. There's one nurse there with a very bad attitude, like she doesn't want to be bothered; sorry b$@#%, but that's your job. We as parents have questions and you need to answer them, point blank and if you don't know find someone who does. The overall hospital is filthy, some kid was running through the hallway talking about killing himself while the staff did absolutely nothing. This place is disgusting and I didn't want to give it any stars but I had no choice.

Horrible staff. Don't explain anything. I hated my stay here. They make their own rules. Don't bother with this ridiculous place. The staff needs to be admitted themselves.

My wife and I have been pursuing funding for adult housing since October of 2016 with an agency called CAU. It is a very exhaustive process and we have been put through the ringer repeatedly while going through this process. This lousy hospital refused to keep our son until we could secure this funding and a group home could be found. We were threatened with being reported for neglect if we refused to pick him up. Against our wishes we had to give in as the stakes were too high for us but our son wasted no time in demonstrating that he had not improved. On the way home I was pounded on while driving. His behavior is exactly as they had been before. I was hit with a flashlight while lying in bed.

This place is deplorable. We are not safe in our home. He is not safe because he can't make good decisions. He is a danger to himself as well as to us. All we desired was for him to be released to an appropriate level of care. Our boy is 5'10" tall and weighs nearly 250 pounds. He has become very difficult for his mid 50's parents to manage. Avoid this place if at all possible.

it was just 48 hours later when we received a call from the hospital that informed us our son was going to be released on Saturday Sept. 2, without this second staffing. It was now their opinion that after two days he was suddenly better.

I can honestly say this place saved my life. Granted it was scary at first I mean it's a mental hospital and it was kind of ghetto but that only made the day less boring. I personally loved the food here they made amazing corn bread and have something different everyday. The nurses for the most part were sweet as can be. I was admitted here twice and went to outpatient. It took me awhile but after going here a few times I went from a straight D student to honor roll. The doctors are not the best in my opinion for inpatient but they make up for it with group and such. Also the education curriculum was at a 6th grade lever but other than that I loved Riveredge and would suggest it in a heartbeat to anyone struggling.

Being that it was technically Saturday the 26th when he arrived (he arrived after midnight from Lutheran General Hospital) he wasn't really seen by staff until Monday the 27th. On Tuesday August 28th I was contacted during a staffing and informed that my son had been talking about hearing voices, voices which told him to do the things he did. I was advised that they believed my son was not making this up and that his story was genuine. At the end of this staffing we were told that they would have another one the following Tuesday, Sept. 5th. They told us that he would not be released until after that discussion.
